We were thrilled when Maruicio “Moe” Garay, owner of The Highlands Grille & Cafe in DC, contacted us about using our peel and stick wallpaper Gradient to add ambience to his restaurant.
After seeing our profile in Houzz, Moe contacted us for wallpaper ideas that he could use to not only to change the painted red color in the bathrooms but that would complement the beautiful mural he had painted by artist Aniekan Udofia in his second location restaurant that was soon to open.
He sent pictures so we could recommend several ideas that would pick up on the colors and ambience of the mural.
This included: the Morning Yellow, Daylight Blue, and Purple Dusk Gradient; as well as considering, Clouds; Faux Glass Mosaic Tile; Stripes; Beeswax Faux Padded Harlequin; Teal Faux Bois; Lavender Fireflies; and Pink & Teal Artichaut patterns.
He chose the Morning Yellow and Purple Dusk Ombre Gradients that both were in keeping with the mural colors and worked nicely with the white subway tile in each bathroom.
To make sure he had enough that were printed at the same time to install without a noticeable color demarcation, he ordered multiple murals from our Casart Decor Shop. Because the color varies already from light to dark within each mural, any demarcation between panels would not be very noticeable. Getting several murals allowed him the flexibility of installing with the gradient going from dark to light or vice versa, vertically or horizontally. He chose the vertical gradient of darker color fading to lighter color at the top. This visually draws your eye upward, increasing a sense of height to the room.
We sent some quick steps and a visual guide to help ease his concerns about the installation.
Later, he let us know that his nephew had installed the murals with a yellow one in one bathroom and the purple in another. He liked their look but found an even better and very creative way to make them even more in harmony with the mural.
To draw your eye around visually, he installed large-scale stickers of additional painted mural elements on top of the murals in strategic locations
We think they look fabulous! We had an opportunity to visit Moe’s new restaurant, order a delicious meal and view the Gradient murals while we were there. It was so great to see all his patrons enjoying themselves and realizing that this establishment had already become a community gathering place for friends and family — such great togetherness that I’m glad we were a part of its decor.
